Office of the President

Maria Lourdes N. Tiquia

University President

Welcome to the Universidad de Manila or UDM.

UDM is a public, non-sectarian, non-profit, non-partisan institution of higher learning which was established with its own juridical personality.  UDM exercises all powers granted by the city government of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines.

UDM was created under City Ordinance 7885 as amended by Ordinance No. 8120. UDM is the paragon of research, learning, excellence and empowerment for the underprivileged youth of the City of Manila. It is dedicated to the advancement of human knowledge, particularly of the people of Manila. UDM promotes free and quality tertiary education for the youth, relevant curricular and research programs, and responsive extension services, all of which benefits the City of Manila and the country.

This administration will pursue, with utmost urgency, the transformation of UDM into the hub of Education 4.0 in the City. We hope to produce the needed graduates for the workforce being transformed by Industry 4.0. Education will have to be more “personalized, peer-to-peer and a continuous process.”  Gone are the days of legacy systems and silos approaches.

We need to accelerate remote learning.  We should adapt to blended learning, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and flipped classrooms with the students focused on project-based learning. The curriculum should include enhanced subject knowledge and field-specific experience. Students must be able to describe and analyze data and predict future trends.  Consequently, changes in examination pattern and assessment need to be incorporated and curriculum and pedagogy reviewed on a regular basis, to be responsive to the needs of the time.

The future of education will change the teaching-learning methods to make the students future- ready.  UDM as an academic institution will embrace such changes to build on employable skills of its students and prepare them to be Industry 4.0 ready.  As a learned individual once said, “education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.”
