BLASTS FROM UDM’S 26TH FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY
The Universidad de Manila (UDM) community celebrated its 26th Founding Anniversary from April 25 to May 1 with the theme UDM: Flexible and Innovative Through Technology (F.I.T.) @ 26.
The Covid-19 Pandemic did not dampen the Merlions’ roar in celebrating this momentous occasion. For the entire week, the UDM-Supreme Student Government (SSG), with the support of our beloved President Ma. Lourdes N. Tiquia, led UDM in mounting different activities to the delight of many students, faculty members and administration. All events such as Slogan Making Contest, Singing Contest, Spoken Poetry Contest and Photography Contest were conducted and judged via on-line platforms. Preliminaries for Mister and Miss UDM were also conducted, with the grand coronation happening soon. All these made our students abuzz and engaged in the friendly and fun-filled competitions that boosted their morale. A two-day community pantry was also held which showed the generosity of past and present students and faculty.
The highlight of the week was the university convocation held last April 26, which is the day the City College of Manila (now UDM) was created through Manila City Ordinance (MCO) No. 7885. One of the principal sponsors of MCO No. 7885 is former City Councilor and now Secretary to the Mayor Bernardito C. Ang, who surprised Merlions with a heartfelt message to the community. Manila Mayor and UDM Chairman Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna also gave their congratulatory messages. There were also service awards given to the many employees who have devoted their loyalty and dedication to UDM for the past 26 years.
Truly, the new normal way of celebrating the University’s week-long festivities is a testament of UDM’s resilient and formidable spirit. Indeed, this pandemic only made UDM even more flexible and innovative.
