Welcome Message from the Dean

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) provides liberal education for undergraduate programs. Because you finished High School in the HUMSS, STEM & GAS strands and passed the program interviews, it qualified you to the programs in the CAS. May you get the most out of the two fields of studies co-existing in our college which aim to help you become a multi-disciplinary professional in the work world.

College History

The programs in our College when it started in 1995, were BS in Psychology, BA in Political Science, Bachelor in Public Administration & BS in Criminology, to compose the School of Behavioral Sciences. In 1997, BS in Social Work was opened and formed as part of the College of Arts & Sciences.

College Overview

The multidisciplinary nature of our College makes our students versatile in the field of liberal arts and pure sciences. Our students will learn from each other’s competency which aims to balance their thinking in a scientific and creative setting.

Vision

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) envision to create a balance between the body, soul, and spirit for the youth of Manila and shall help build a balanced, livable community. 

 

Mission

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) commissions to provide students with a liberal education that promotes social awareness and involvement and by introducing them to basic and advanced scientific academic pursuits.

Meaning and Description:

  • The Globe, lifted by a Torch, symbolizes international attention to social issues within CAS such as the Mental Health Awareness campaign.
  • The Book, surrounded by an Orbit, symbolizes the college’s dynamism on the co-existence of the fields of arts and sciences.
  • The Laurels symbolize the colleges pride and honor in its achievement through its students’ cross-disciplinary academic competence and virtue.

The College Color

  • The College of Arts and Sciences is represented by the color Blue for a wide expanse of learning like the blue sky and the blue sea. It is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, expansiveness, inspiration, and sensitivity-concepts which are characteristics of the programs. Blue also represents meanings of depth, wisdom, stability and intelligence.

Programs

Bachelor of Science in Social Work

Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) is a four-year degree program designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills in social work practice, social welfare policies and human welfare. It helps students understand the different units of society, such as families and communities, the problems and issues that surround them and the possible solutions that can empower and improve their way of living.

The BS in Social Work program teaches students important skills in assessment, interviewing, service planning, case management, crisis intervention, problem solving, program evaluation, community outreach, community organizing, advocacy, research and networking. It also aims to educate students on how to deal with different groups or individuals, including people who have disabilities, mental illnesses, criminal backgrounds and addictions.

 

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology program (BSP) is designed to help you observe human behavior through the scientific method, allowing you to gain access to the human psyche and fathom its depths. You will gain the knowledge, tools and skills needed to assess and conduct empirical research regarding individual and group behavior through the lens of various psychological theories and concepts. The BSP degree can prepare you for general careers in teaching, research, counseling and human resources. It can also be a foundation major for further studies in the fields of Medicine, Guidance and Counseling, Human Resource Development and Law.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Political Science

The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (PolSci) is a four-year degree program which centers on the study of governments, the history and forms of political institutions, political behavior and political policies. It covers important areas of study including Philippine Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory and Methodology, Public Administration, Political Dynamics, Local and Global Governance, and Research in Politics. AB in Political Science is also a preparatory course for a law degree.

 

Bachelor of Arts in Communication

Bachelor in Public Administration 

The Bachelor in Public Administration (BPA) is a four-year degree program designed to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in public sector management and policy development. It aims to develop public servants with the required knowledge, values and skills to serve as professionals in government and civil society. It equips students with fundamentals of good governance, policy analysis and formulation. It centers on topics like theories of public administration, human capital management, fiscal administration , government budgeting and accounting, and ethics of public servants. A special program is also offered to those who are in the government and have not finished any degree yet.

Universidad De Manila is one of the two locally funded higher-education institutions of Manila offering free college education to the city’s under-privileged students.
